First Grade

Nicole Heineman
Kindergarten Teacher

Hello! My name is Nicole and I was born and raised in Colorado. I am actually a Jeffco alumni myself. I graduated from Pomona High School in Arvada. I attended Metropolitan State University of Denver and majored in Early Childhood Education. This is my third year teaching Kindergarten.

A few of my hobbies include: spending time with my family and friends, traveling, hiking, playing with my dog, reading, dancing and listening to country music.

I started my career at Arvada K-8 and it is a wonderful place to be. You are not going to find more loving teachers who give it their all each and everyday.  Cheers to an adventurous school year!

Kerrie Ward
First Grade Teacher

My name is Kerrie Ward. I have lived in Colorado my whole life. I attended Western Colorado University and Metropolitan State University.  I started my teaching career in 1999 and have taught kindergarten and first grade.

I live in Arvada, Colorado with my husband and my two sons. We also have two dogs that bring us great joy!  We enjoy camping and taking trips to explore mountain towns. One of our favorite mountain towns is Grand Lake.

Arvada K-8 is an awesome place to teach and learn! I love the staff because they are dedicated to doing whatever it takes to help the students succeed. I love meeting my new students each year and building relationships with them and their families. There is no other place I would rather be!

Kelly Osmun
First Grade Teacher

My name is Kelly Osmun and I am a graduate of Jefferson County Public Schools. I majored in sociology at Colorado State University and then spent my twenties living, working, and traveling abroad. I taught middle school English in Japan for three years and wrote articles for Rainbow Magazine, an educational publication for children, while living in Kenya. Between jobs I loved backpacking and SCUBA diving through Asia and Africa while trying to figure out what I wanted to do for a career. Upon returning to the US I earned a teaching certificate from Metropolitan State University of Denver.

I have been married to another Jefferson County educator and counselor for twenty years and we have an 18 year old son and 17 year old twin daughters. We all love the outdoors and enjoy hiking and camping together. Our most memorable and challenging family adventure was hiking around the almost 21,000 foot peak of Mt. Ausangate in Peru!

This will be my seventh year teaching first grade at Arvada K-8 and I love and respect our community of students, parents and staff! This year we face an unprecedented challenge and will need to openly and compassionately communicate and support each other more than ever. Together we can do this!
