Administration

Scott Simon Principal

Hi there,

I am a proud Colorado native who grew up in Aurora and went to the University of Colorado.  I was a history major and also earned my teaching license to teach secondary social studies and was also endorsed to teach secondary language arts.  I started my teaching career in Jeffco at Wheat Ridge Middle School in 2000 and worked there teaching social studies, language arts, 1 year of math, and a program called AVID.  In 2008, I became the dean of students at WRMS.  I moved into my first principal role in 2011 at Thomson Elementary School in Arvada.  Then my dream job opened at Arvada K-8 in 2015 and I became the 2nd principal of Arvada K-8 that year.  I love being the principal of our school!

When not working I love spending time with my three children:  a fourteen year old daughter going into 9th grade, a 12 year old daughter going into 7th  grade and a 6 year old son who is a first grader.  I am extremely busy attending their different sports and activities.  When we have more time we love traveling to the mountains and skiing when we can.

When I have personal time, though I am getting old, I still love playing basketball and soccer.  Before Covid – 19, I was still playing in 3 basketball leagues per week and hope that happens again as we get back to a normal routine again.

As I mentioned above, I love being the principal of Arvada K-8.  We have such a strong community that supports our school!  We have an amazing staff that works so hard to meet the needs of our students!  Last, but definitely not least, our student population inspires me each and every day!  They are such great young people who work hard to do their very best each and every day!  I love to see them succeed and support them when they are struggling.  Arvada K-8 is a great place to be a principal!

Tonya Bruce Assistant Principal

Hi! My name is Tonya. I was raised in Golden, Colorado and attended Jeffco Schools K-12. I graduated from Metro State College of Denver with my elementary teaching license and University of Denver with my administrator license. I’ve been an educator for 16 years, teaching 4th, 5th and 6th grade, being an instructional coach and now assistant principal.

I love the warm weather and being outside with my husband and children, taking walks, riding bikes and having fun. I have a 10th grade daughter, 7th grade daughter and 6th grade step-daughter. We also have two sweet dogs, a black lab named Belle and a Bernese Mountain dog named Maya.

I have been at Arvada K-8 for five year and absolutely love the students, families and staff. This is the best place to work! We have fun, love learning and truly work as a team to make everyday the best day possible for kids!
