Diverse Library Collection

Every student deserves to see themselves represented in a variety of texts. What a great feeling it is to connect on a personal level with a character and know that you are not alone. To deeply connect with a story builds self-esteem and self-value. This mirror experience helps students gain confidence to be unique and express themselves as they are. 

It is also important to provide windows and sliding glass door texts. These books open students' minds beyond the familiar and comfortable. It stretches their thinking and teaches empathy and value for lifestyles and ideas different from their own. These are the books that really help a person grow and appreciate diversity and inclusiveness.

The Arvada K-8 Library strives hard to meet the diverse needs of our community and provide rich experiences with texts. Students are encouraged to read across genres, make personal connections, and find books that broaden their thinking.
